Almost a blog

28 September 2008 :: By God! Where does time go?
I sat here tonight and realised that it's almost two months since I did anything on this website :-0
The shed has been a fairly frenzied hive of activity for the last few weeks. First, a young friend of mine (his father and me are committee members at the same rifle club) wanted some help with his first "bolt-together". The "Tuxedo Tele Terror" was finally screwed together last weekend, but it's coming back for some tweaking now that things have had time to settle. I only have one photo of the beast that my wife took while I was testing it on Saturday. I'll dig it out and post it later.
"Dragondreams V3" is now well under construction. I've modified the basic body design. It's now quite a bit longer than the original two. The first two were designed to be comfortable for me to play while sat in my swivel chair, usually surrounded by a pair of cats! This new version is actually a commission - but I'm sworn to secrecy until the final recipient has it in his Christmas stocking. This one WAS going to be mine, but the little lady who commissioned the build is rather special to me ;-)
So. No pictures of V3 yet - but I've been documenting the build in some detail. Watch this space some time around Boxing Day for pictures and words.
The attic has also seen some action! Last year, I was asked to facilitate some interviews at a celebration event. These interviews were filmed. For the last couple of weeks I've been editing together the highlights - and adding the backing music. DD2 got her first outing on a recording. It was also the first time I got to use my new pedal board. After auditioning LOADS of pedals, I've finally bolted together my favourites. With the exception of a Vox and a Moen compressor, the rest of the board is exclusively Biyang. And they do exactly what they say on the tin! There's a clip here. It's the track for the end credits of the video.
29 July 2008 :: My younger daughter's shop, Hudson & Miller Vintage, is now open. The original opening was planned for 12 July, but BT are basically a bunch of time-wasting losers and meant that she had to delay opening for a week.
Consequently, I've got no further on my latest build, other than chopping a piece of lacewood down its centre. At the moment it's languishing in the shed along with a lovely piece of walnut, just waiting to be planed ready for jointing. Most of my "free" time has been spent doing more mundane woodworking tasks, like fitting a load of racking in the shop's basement.
However. I now have almost all of the hardware for build number 4, as well as a carefully scribbled outline for the slightly larger body shape.
7 July 2008 :: These pages are getting a little neglected - just like the guitar building.
My younger daughter's shop is almost ready to open, and the last couple of weeks have been unbelievably busy. We've all had to muck in to help out.
However, the timber is now on its way for the next two project guitars, and plans are almost complete for both of them! Watch this space.
29 June 2008 :: I've been looking for an archive disc with some schematics on it. So far, I've had no luck finding it. But there are quite literally thousands of discs here in the attic - so there's a bit more looking to be done yet.
However, I did find a disc with some fledgling tracks that are "almost" finished. I'd forgotten all about them. I have a habit of putting a track on the back burner if I find it's not going in the direction I want it to. Sometimes I get a nice surprise when I find them again.
I've uploaded mp3 versions of five tracks that don't sound too bad... You can find them on the music 2007 to now page if you'd like to have a listen.
