Just one of those "stray" thoughts I had this morning...
I was fiddling with my resonator (

) while waiting for the first coffee of the day to brew. I'm still messing with that F# A C# G# B E tuning. It occurred to me that I've basically sussed a number of "shapes" that work in that tuning. And now all I'm doing is arranging them and rearranging them like some sort of virtual Lego set until I get a sequence of sounds that gives me the aural aesthetic I'm happy with - and that will eventually be given a title, recorded and counted as a "tune".
My more usual approach is to either try to capture a melody I hear in my head, then work out a suitable accompaniment. Or I string some chords together using a bit of theory, then noodle over it for hours, picking out the most musical sounding noodles and working on them until there's some coherence to the piece.
I think the only message here is to have that first coffee of the day before trying to get philosophical about guitar composition...
