Hi Everyone
I'm thinking about getting a new neck for one of my guitars. The reason is that I'm going to try my hand at some fretwork on the current one, so I'll need a replacement when it goes wrong
Anyway, the current neck is 21 fret maple with rosewood fingerboard. I lowered the action recently and can't get rid of some fret buzz that has happened as a result. There are some frets that are quite worn (almost dented) in places where the strings press against them, which means that I can get intermittent buzzes in various places on the neck. The only way to remove the buzz is to raise the action again. In fairness, the neck (and the rest of the guitar) is quite old and has had a lot of abuse over the years. So I'm going to try levelling/crowning/polishing the frets to see if I can make it any better.
Just in case, I've had a look on
Axesrus for replacement necks. They seem okay and reasonably priced. So I wondered;
Has anyone here used them or got necks from them before?
Got any other place they'd recommend for necks?
Would a 22 fret neck be an option? My other guitar has 22 frets and I sometimes want that last fret on this guitar.
I'm toying with the idea of an all maple neck. Any opinions?
Thanks for any advice
David
